Too busy to blog....

I have been too busy to blog for the last 8 months!!

Ok, maybe not always too busy, but to be fair I've had a lot going on....

In July we made the move from Cyprus to Germany. For me that meant a (delayed - no surprises there) flight to the UK with the RAF, followed by a weekend in Brighton at my brother's, then a week or so at home with Mum. After that came a ferry ride and drive across Europe to our new home in north east Germany - Lower Saxony, or Niedersachsen, to be precise. For himself it meant flying direct to Germany with the dog two days after I got here, after the removals had arrived and were already being dealt with. I have to say this was my choice as I prefer to do the unpacking so I know where everything is.

With the move came all the usual bumph of sorting the house, registering with every man and his dog, getting phone lines and internet sorted, followed by the hunt for a job and generally finding my way about.

Whilst I still speak enough French to manage very nicely it's no use to me in Germany - and most of the German I did at school appears to have departed my brain through my left ear at some point in the last 16 years. Not helpful, but I'm picking up things relatively quickly.... although the phrases I'm learning seem to relate mainly to shopping... Strange that!

So here we are, settled and happy, with a job I love and new, but already good, friends.

Himself is away a lot - so after two years of having him home most of the time we are back to situation normal.

One thing I will say about Germany in December is SNOW!!!!

Slightly irritating to hear people in the UK twining about the weather when I have to go shovel a foot of snow off the drive by law - and I have to go out snow or not, but hey ho.

And because I have to do this I really shouldn't be here now, so I'm going out to wield my trusty shovel and think about what good exercise it is whilst I try not to freeze to death in the -8 "feels like -13" temperatures. (That "feels like" thing is strange - for me if it "feels like" it is - or should be!)

Happy Friday people!

Flights...

We're supposed to be flying back to Cyprus on Sunday.... Who knows if that will be happening!

Part of me would be happy to stay a little longer - but part of me wants to get back to the pooch - especially as I went to Pets at Home at the weekend and got her some liquid tooth cleaner that you put in the water bowl. After her objecting royally to having her teeth brushed am hoping that this will do the trick.

Was quite amazed when I saw it - Doggy Dental in Cyprus seems to consist of Dentastix (bought some of those as well for a quarter of the price we pay in Cyprus!) When we left the UK in July 2008 and her teeth were fantastic - now they're not so great. Will also be booking her into the vet for a teeth clean when she has her jabs next month.

That will make me popular! Not. Oh well.

House Work Blinkers....

....Do they exist? And where can I get some?!

Why is it that I can walk around the house and see six hundred things that need doing, cleaning, tidying, washing or putting away - yet himself can walk in, sit down, switch on the tv - and see NOTHING?

Are house work blinkers real? Are they a males only optional extra at birth? That might sound sexist but in all honesty practically every woman I've EVER asked about this phenomenon says that they know what I mean.

My thoughts are that it's part of the multi-tasking thing. Women can think about more than one thing at once (proven!) so they can spot things as they walk in. Men on the other hand walk in thinking "TV" and that's it!

Either way it's irritating...

Weddings...

Had a fabulous time at my brother's wedding on Monday... but it was knackering!

We drove five hours to Orchardleigh House in Somerset on Sunday. Loads of us were staying in cottages on the estate and we crunched into the courtyard just in time for a couple of cheeky glasses of wine before leaving for the rehearsal in the church.

Came back to continue the party and BBQ although I crashed out at 10.15 - only to be woken up again at midnight when himself came to bed. Cheers for that.

Not being used to central heating I had the worst nights sleep ever - I was just baking all night.

Got up at 7, sat drinking coffee around the kitchen table with loads of other people, followed by a fantastic full breakfast cooked by my brother's (very soon) to be mother in law.

Moved into the main house once we were showered and had had our hair done - got changed at speed...

I was somewhat disrupted by the fact that between me taking off my clothes and putting on my dress FOUR people knocked on the damn door!!! This resulted in me diving into the toilet (room not bowl!) repeatedly - in varying states of undress.

Finally managed to get ready and we set off on the coach for the church. The service was beautiful, the hymns were some I love, and I didn't totter off my heels whilst walking up the aisle to do my reading - the thought of which had actually kept me awake at night!!

The church was beautiful but I'm betting that when they put the ornate grills all down the centre of the aisle the stilleto hadn't been invented...

We got back to the house to be greeted by Champagne and canapes which were fabulous. After photos and mingling we sat down to a fantastic dinner of salmon mousse, beef Wellington with heart shaped Dauphinoise potatoes and vegetables followed by a chocolate and raspberry dessert which was stunning. All accompanied by three wines, and followed by the speeches which came with more Champagne!

Following dinner came the Ceilidh band and lots of dancing, the drink flowed free, and everyone dived in and out of the "Groovy Booth" - a photo booth with accessories lol. At ten there was even more food with a fab supper buffet.

That night I fell into bed as "last (wo)man standing" at 2.45am... So I was less than impressed when I woke up at 7!

Following a lot of coffee, juice and an enormous breakfast we finally set off for home, knackered, at 11.30. Five and a half hours later we rolled into the drive...

Noone could be bothered to cook so we had Domino's, which turned out to be the straw that broke the camel's back for me and I spent the night upchucking. I think my stomach finally revolted at all the rich food! I NEVER eat half the things I ate over those three days so not really surprising.

Am still trying to catch up on my sleep but it was a truly fantastic wedding!

Ah.... another blog...

So... another blog. Older, wiser and yet strangely more confused about life.

Why is it when you think you have a handle on the universe the smallest change can change everything?

Yup.... weird.
